| "PECULIAR BEHAVIOURS" AN EVENING WITH CANADA'S FUNNIEST SINGER-SONGWRITERS NANCY WHITE & ROGER JAMES. Nancy White, winner of three ACTRA awards for humour, shares the stage with Roger James who is "possibly the most hilarious man on earth," says Nancy. In solo and shared sets, Nancy and Roger bring ninety minutes of inspired, original humour. Both are witty observers of the twitches and turns of popular culture. Born in the Maritimes, hardened in Toronto, Nancy White rose to national prominence as the writer and singer of topical songs on the CBC radio show, "Sunday Morning". But she's perhaps best appreciated for her cd on the torture of motherhood: "Momnipotent: Songs for Weary Parents" which, like the Pope's album, has been slow but steady seller over the years. Her latest recording is "Stickers On Fruit" and features comic gems like "Jesus At Tim's", "Nova Scotia Squirrel Stuffer" and "The Shabbas Goy C'est Moi". Nancy's been the recipient of many honours, most recently an Ontario Motor League 25-year certificate and Sticker of Warning. Her foundation, The Palmerston Institute of Inquiry into Peculiar Behaviours has just commissioned a study of why some people remove the husks from corn IN THE SUPERMARKET. Although Nancy is a woman of considerable sophistication, she has never made a martini, lanced a boil, or corresponded with a prisoner. Roger James describes his performance this way, "OK, I'm playing a song, if you're laughing it's comedy. If you're not, it's music." Roger does sea shanties for babies. He does a square dance song about spouse swapping. His scholarly translations of "Wooly Booly" and "Louie, Louie" are not to be missed. A terrific banjo and guitar player, Roger also plays bodhran (Irish drum), bones, Celtic harp, and piano. Combine this with musical styles as diverse as Celtic, English 50's& 60s rock and roll, blues, folk, bluegrass and you have a entertaining collision of humour and musical skill. Film historians, please note, Roger appeared onscreen as a fishmonger- street musician in the 1999 HBO movie "Vendetta". His role lasted 52 seconds. | |||||
