The Kingston Arts Council is the oldest community arts council in Ontario. It incorporated in 1963 to act as an information base and resource centre for arts and culture, develop interest and support for the area's artistic community, and provide liaisons between the arts community, the public, government, and other organizations. KAC operates with a commitment to: providing leadership to the arts community; encouraging excellence in the arts; ensuring support for and public access to the arts; creating opportunities for self-expression through the arts; developing partnerships with other community sectors, and engaging and inspiring all members of the community. We believe that everyone should have the right to have access to and to participate in the arts; and that a strong arts community contributes to the quality of life and economic vitality of Kingston. Together with other community partners, KAC works in creative and innovative ways to ensure that it: •Serves as the incubator and nurturing centre for all the arts visual, performing, literary and media arts in the community; •Supports, coordinates, encourages, promotes and leads arts and cultural expression and development in Kingston; •Sponsors, encourages and fosters excellence in artistic expression; •Embraces all ages, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in the creation and enjoyment of the arts. •Serves as the advocate and provides a united voice for the arts and artists in the community; •Provides information and support to the whole artistic community on all significant political, economic, social and cultural issues; •Functions as an arts and culture resource centre for local government, businesses and the community at large; •Encourages inclusiveness and accessibility to the arts, and develops and nurtures community partnerships which foster our prolific arts community Webdesign -Roger James ©2006 Kingston Arts Council |
